1985 Warre

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

From a half bottle. Mature brick-red colour, 40% opaque. Smelling of stewed fruit and a touch of bottle stink. Rich fruit on entry, stewed cherries and rhubarb with a delightful acidity that keeps all fresh and lively yet allows it to remain a serious and subtly powerful wine. The finish is led by the fruit and stewed cherries but shows a gentle hint of the tannins on the long and chewy finish. A very lovely glass of port than manages to combine power with elegance in a very effective manner. Pity this is only a half bottle! 91/100. 23-Apr-16. 4½ hour decant.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
