Deep brick red, looking mature but only just; opaque centre but a wide rim. An interesting nose of deep bramble fruit, tinted with lavender. The lavender and bramble fruit are well developed and soft on the palate, supported by some gentle black chocolate tannins. The whole is very nicely balanced with a good level of complexity and plenty of youth. A touch of heat from the acidity on the aftertaste before a wonderful, warm glow and very long finish of ground pepper and black chocolate. Great port that is in no hurry to be drunk and will happily reward another decade or two in the cellar. 92/100. 29-Apr-16.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
