1970 Sandeman

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Oporto bottled, with a surprisingly short cork. Deep rose red in colour, 70% opaque. Surprisingly fresh on the nose, lots of cranberry and violets. Nice balance on entry, slightly thick. Powerful bitter acidity accompanied by intense burnt caramel, cranberry and grapefruit flavours. The mid-palate develops some delightful floral undertones. Huge aftertaste, full of intense flavours, strongly acidic. A long finish of bitter cranberry, bitter-sweet burnt caramel and the ghost of tannins past. A very big and complex port, in no hurry to be drunk. Delicious. 92/100. 20-May-16
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
