At Bonham’s on 18 February 2016 was sold most of a pipe of Fonseca 1963, not moved since original purchase (lots 324 to 343).

So, on Wednesday 15th June 2016, we gathered in the Boot & Flogger to compare six of these, which were joined by a selection of other English-bottled Vintage Ports.

65% opacity, caramel brown. Wonderfully rich nose - orange and wood. In the mouth, marmalade, very chewy.

Bottled 2010. Deep honey colour with a slight greeness to the rim. A surprising amount of sediment in the wine. A delicious nose of VA and soft caramel. Toasted toffee on the palate with a lovely orange element. Big pineapple explosion on the aftertaste and a long finish with a tremendous flavour but overall this is less thick and unctuous than many of its peers from this vintage. 87/100. 15-Jun-16. Pop 'n' pour.
