2000 Barao de Vilar

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at the Confraria do Vinho do Porto dinner. Deep red, no youth but not bricking. Almost opaque. Soft and slightly jammy nose with a touch of sous bois. Smooth texture, wonderful violets and sherbert fruits. Very ripe and slightly jammy. Modest tannins come through on the late palate. Violets and bramble jelly on the finish, a long licorice root finish with a good length. Lovely port. Ready now but also capable of being kept for a few more years. 91 (93). 26-Jun-16. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
