2000 Dalva

Drunk at the Confraria do Vinho do Porto dinner. Deep red with a youthful appearance but no purple. Just opaque at the centre. Rather musty nose, of slightly dirty blackberry fruit or overripe blueberry. The dirty edge follows through onto the palate, which has good fruit and tannic structure but lacks the freshness and balance of other ports from this vintage. Pleasant aftertaste dominated by the fruit and a good tannin-driven finish. Decent, but not up to the standard of other ports from this vintage. 84/100. 26-Jun-16. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
