2000 Sandeman

Drunk at the Confraria do Vinho do Porto dinner. Deep red with an impenetrable centre, amazingly dark compared to the others tasted. Lovely nose of mixed raspberries and blackberries (although another bottle suffered badly from bottle stink). Fresh, ripe and lovely. Balanced entry, a touch neutral; then lots of fruit, perfectly poised before a huge wave of beautifully ripe tannins seize and grip for the rest of the palate. This shows lovely cherry fruit throughout and is a great mouthful. Cherry dominated aftertaste and then a monumental toasted tannin finish. This is one heck of a port, drinkable now if you like your port with a bit of oomph but with the necessary to last decades. 95/100. 25-Jun-16. Decanted 12 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
