1970 Fonseca

Tasted as part of a 1966 / 1970 double horizontal of Dow, Fonseca, Graham and Warre.

Bottled by John Harvey & Sons of 12 Denmark Street, Bristol. Graham was the darkest of the four 1970 wines, followed by the Fonseca, Warre and Dow; 80% opaque. Strawberry nose, oddly dirty and slightly hot. Sweet and balanced entry bringing soft fruit with gentle tannins and a lovely combination of power and balance, a great mid-palate. Chocolate and raisin finish with a lovely balance. This is really fine port that needs another 10 years with the fruit being surprisingly primary. DMS picked up a little sharpness on the nose and palate that he felt indicated some VA. 94/100. 26-Jun-16. Decanted 3½ hours.
