1966 Warre

Tasted as part of a 1966 / 1970 double horizontal of Dow, Fonseca, Graham and Warre.
Ex-cellars, removed from the Lodge cellar on 23/6/16. Decanted at 20.30, tasted after dinner finished at 23.00. Of the four shippers from this vintage, Fonseca was the darkest, Graham slightly lighter and Warre being darker than Dow. The latter three all being the garnet colour of polished redwood with this wine being about 30% opaque. Effusive nose, full of pine resin and sea-side freshness, beautifully fresh. A lovely texture on entry that slides over the palate and delivers balanced floral fruit dominated by raisins and sultanas. Later on the palate comes redcurrant and lavender. This has great balance in the mouth and even shows some soft and slightly sweet milk chocolate tannins and creaminess. There is orange blossom on the aftertaste followed by a slightly chocolate and orange finish of good length. This is such a lovely and elegant port - wonderful. 92/100. 26-Jun-16. Decanted 3 hours.
