Tasted as part of a 1966 / 1970 double horizontal of Dow, Fonseca, Graham and Warre.
Ex-cellars, removed on 23/6/16. Graham was the darkest of the four 1970 wines, followed by the Fonseca, Warre and Dow; 50% opaque. Slightly medicinal nose of bitter sloes, attractive despite the descriptors. Soft and silky on entry, smooth and with little fruit at first. Air releases lovely fruit backed up with suprisingly strong tannins, the whole being gentle and elegant. A slight heat appears on the aftertaste before chewy tannins and red fruit pastilles combine with some pepper on the slightly dry finish. This is a lovely, gentle and elegant port. 91/100. 26-Jun-16. Decanted 4 hours.
