1985 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

In appearance looking to be in the early stages of maturity, deep red but with hints of bricking. The nose brings lovely autumnal smells of warm spiced cherries, lively and vivacious. Balanced and refined on entry with generous doses of fruit and an offsetting and refreshing acidity; gentle tannins drive a lively spiciness in the wine. Fresh on the aftertaste and a delicious finish of slightly candied raspberries. This is very lovely and makes nice drinking today but has 2-3 decades of life ahead of it yet. Served blind (but with lots of clues) this was guessed to be Fonseca 1985. 91/100. Drunk 20-Sep-16. Decanted 36 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
