1945 Croft

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Mature brick red, 90% opaque. Showing little on the nose, just a bit of spirit and higher toned elements. Mature redcurrant fruit with spice and pepper on the palate within the fruit. A little light in body but mature with some leather and dried meat. A lovely big finish, a huge cranberry aftertaste and a great length where the tannins gently show. The finish is wonderful, but the palate too hot and disjointed. Served blind and knowing this to be Croft '45, Dow '45 or Croft '60 this was guessed to be the Croft '60. 87/100. Drunk 26-Sep-16. Decanted 4½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
