Mature brick red, just opaque at the centre. Mature fruit on the nose, complex with a melange of spiced fruit. Smooth and round on entry with the fruit leading, sweetened by brown sugar but with a lovely freshness from the acidity. The dark chocolate tannins show on the late palate, adding a bite of crushed black peppercorns. The finish is long and lingering. This is very fine port. Served semi-blind, this was known to be Croft '45, Dow '45 or Croft '60 and was guessed to be Croft '45. 95/100. Drunk 26-Sep-16. Decanted 4½ hours.
