1970 Dow

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Mature mid-red colour; 70% opaque. Peppery sweet black fruit on the nose, showing lots of bramble fruits. Surprisingly sweet on entry for a Dow port, bringing all the bramble fruit promised by the nose backed up by a lovely woody tannin. The late palate shows hints of pepper hidden in the mass of fruit. The aftertaste is dry and full of spiced blackcurrant jelly, This is a fine showing of a surprisingly youthful port. 94/100. 29-Sep-16. Decanted 6 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
