1963 Dow

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Sourced from a house clearance in London. Decanted off a large amount of heavy sediment.

Deep brick red in colour, about 60% opaque at the centre. Cherry fruit and a bit of fresh basil leaf on the attractive nose. Balanced on entry with a pine resin edge to the sour plum and damson fruit. Hot nutmeg on the aftertaste with ground peppercorn and basil on the very long cranberry finish. Still surprisingly youthful and very powerful with the Dow dryness showing clearly on the palate and aftertaste. 84/100. Opened 29-Dec-16. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
