1977 Warre (Tappit Hen)
An oversize crowd—possible because the bottles were all Magnums and Tappit Hens—gathered on Wednesday 1st February 2017 at the Boot and Flogger, to taste these large-format 1977s.

40% opacity, dark red. Lovely smooth entry, great body, gentle heat late palate. Fruit, cherries, great balance.

Deep red colour with a burnished copper rim; 50% opaque. An attractive nose of sweet and spiced fruit bringing soft raisins and golden sultanas. Amazingly smooth texture but much less concentrated on the palate than the magnum drunk alongside. Floral and flavoursome mid-palate which recovers much of the flavour and depth initially missing on entry. Soft tannins show with air on the palate and the late palate is much better than the early impact. A little heat shows on the aftertaste before an impressive finish takes over. Lots of potential for the future. 88/100. Decanted 4½ hours.
