1977 Graham (Magnum)
An oversize crowd—possible because the bottles were all Magnums and Tappit Hens—gathered on Wednesday 1st February 2017 at the Boot and Flogger, to taste these large-format 1977s.

70% opacity, dark red. Muted nose, vegetal hints. Hot, spicy entry, tannic along the palate, dark fruits. Lacks freshness, acidity.

Deep brick-red colour, 80% opaque. Rather closed on the nose, showing a little spice and old library dust. Youthful on entry, very hot and spiced with a massive dose of acidity. A little slightly smokey sweet fruit gradually builds up on the late palate. The fruit is full of cracked black pepper, which even dominates the aftertaste before allowing a slight grassy twist through on the finish. Overall this is rather hot and unbalanced. 86/100. Decanted 3½ hours.
