1985 Dow

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Good fortune meant that this bottle, which had been decanted that morning for sale by the glass at the bar, was offered to us as a replacement for the corked F85 we were given, at the same price of £78. This was deep and concentrated with modest tannins giving a good structure. Remarkably dry, as expected from Dow's reputation but a great opportunity to contrast the Dow against the sweeter W83 and SW94. Full of flavour and a joy to drink with a medium-rare chateaubriand. A port which is drinking very nicely now and for many years in the future. 91/100. Drunk 23-Jan-17. Decanted 8 hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
