S60, decanted 14:00. Pale apricot colour — oh dear. Nose had lots of acidity. Palate starts strong, acidity prominent, very crisp and refereshing. Then the mid- and late-palates very faint. It’s Port Captain, but not as we know it.

Amber orange colour, 20% opaque. Reported to be from a bottle which showed no signs of distress or leakage. A slight amount of gritty sediment settled in the glass. On the nose this was clearly oxidised, with some harsh and sour tropical fruit under the antiseptic smell of the oxidised wine. The harshness continued onto the palate, which was initially dominated by the powerful acidity. The oxidised tones showed in the mouth over a thick texture and hints of bitter orange oil. The bitter orange also showed on the finish, which was rather pleasant and showed a slight sticky honey at the end. Oxidised, but still quite pleasant. Served blind this was guessed to be Royal Oporto 1963. NR.
