D55. Dark-red, 50% opaque. Palate dry, and a hint-toned mint. Interesting. Big, and long, and fascinating, and big.

Though dry, not quite drying out.

30% opacity, mature red-brown, amber rim. Hints of treacle on the nose. Smooth, sweet entry, great structure, thick port. Treacle, slightly spicy. Typical Dow dryness.

Bottled in the UK by an unknown bottler. Deep brick red colour, 60% opaque. Initially rather dirty on the nose but this cleared up with some patience to reveal a dark, sweet fruit syrup. Thick and concentrated on the palate with great levels of acidity and a huge, concentrated flavour. The acidity keeps the wine fresh and in balance across the whole range of the palate and into the big burnt sugar and hot black peppercorn aftertaste. Great length on the hot and slightly sticky finish. Not as dry as expected from the Dow; joint best wine of this 1955 horizontal. 95/100. Drunk 06-Apr-17. Decanted 2½ hours.
