T55. Red-pink, 30% opaque. Lovely balance, but fruit gone — drying out.

30% opacity, mature brown-red, amber rim. Tobacco on the nose. Soft, syrupy, sweet, lovely bit of acidity near the finish, lip-licking extracted fruits, oranges?

UK bottled by an unknown bottler. Bronzed red colour with a pale rim; 40% opaque. Red jelly on the nose, sweet and soft. The same texture and thickness comes on the palate from the Taylor as has been found on the other 1955 ports at this tasting. Generous soft fruit backed by slightly too little acidity gives a slight lack of focus, but there is plenty of fruit that is floral and fragrant. A rather dry aftertaste shows the tannins still in the wine by drying the edges of the teeth. A long finish, dominated by red licorice that has great length. This port has a lovely delicacy and none of the power normally associated with Taylor. 93/100. Drunk 06-Apr-17. Decanted 3 hours.
