1985 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Dark red and opaque. Big nose of candied cherry and Parma Violets. Big palate with powerful black cherry fruit with firm tannins hiding in the mid-palate. The tannins grow nicely pronounced and allow more of the sweet violet sugar flavours to come through on the late palate. A big, dark chocolate aftertaste with the candied cherry and blueberry syrup. A long finish of green peppercorn and dark cherry. A very fine port, with an impressive if youthful showing. Needs decades in the cellar to hit its peak. 93/100. Opened 13-Feb-17. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
