1998 Dow's Quinta do Bomfim Vintage Port

Post by RonnieRoots »

Poured from half bottle. These Bomfim's are usually great value for money, especially when they are bought during the annual discount at ┚¬8.

The only other 1998 VP I've tasted is the Vargellas, and this port somehow reminded me of that. Rather green / vegetal nose that also shows masses of raw cocoa. This is drier and rougher than most Bomfim's (that I normally find to be sweeter than regular Dow). Medium bodied, dark fruit, again chocolate, some mint. Coarse tannins lead in a dry, bitter finish. This is not at all an unpleasant port, but it is somehow disjointed. And I wonder if it will ever come together. I had the same impression with the Vargellas. Maybe it's a vintage issue? 85 points.
