Mature red colour, 70% opaque. Gentle nose of salt and port in early maturity; gently spicy, sweet and soft fruit — but muted compared to the Smith Woodhouse 1970 drunk alongside. More time in the glass allows the bouquet to develop further. The port has a wonderful balance on the entry with vibrant fruit and a fabulous focusing acidity. Big and punchy palate, really impressive. Lovely lingering sweet red fruit and red licorice with lingering green wood bitterness. Delicious. 92/100. Drunk 10-May-17. Decanted 8 hours.
