I've very much enjoyed the few Rebello Valente vintages I have had the opportunity to try, not seen very often in the UK, and this half-bottle was given to me by someone who knew that (thank you again, if you're reading this!). I had not tried the RV83 before, and considering ’83 overall to be a generally weak vintage (for a general declaration), I was pleasantly surprised as this showed well.

On opening there was considerable bottle-stink to begin, but this blew off after a couple of hours and left a fabulous smell full of Christmas pudding. The taste (at D+4h) was not as full as the nose, though by no means thin; flavour primarily of soft red cherries, with a simple but long smooth finish; a very gentle and enjoyable port.
