65% opacity, dark plum red. Slightly closed, overripe red fruit, bubblegum. Full mouthfeel, little heat mid palate, juicy fruit with a hint of bitterness in the finish.

Dark red centre with a dark rose rim; 90% opaque. A lovely "winey" nose with lots of fruit and cornflowers - very nice. A touch acidic on the entry with restrained fruit on the mid-palate with lots of charcoal dust tannins floating in raspberry jelly. A lovely red licorice aftertaste, sweet but wiith a bit of a bite at the end. Very nice, and giving enjoyable drinking today. 92/100. Decanted 5 hours.

GC97: Big and vey sweet, but slightly dirty — typical ’97.
