On Thursday 19th October 2017 a small emergency was held at the Boot & Flogger, with five attendees. The theme was ‘Mature V.P. or L.B.V.’, blind, and both types showed beautifully.

W81 LBV, labelled WPS. Lovely translucent red. Early palate showing some bitterness, then sweet cherries, then a more generalised big rich sweetness.

I guessed LBV, but completely the wrong one. Other guesses were GM87 and W66. Another delicious bottle, which — by an edge — won second place.

35% opacity, red-brown, amber rim. Lovely rich nose, christmas cake, red fruits, strawberries and, coffee! Smooth entry, gentle heat, sweet, dry fruits. Very slight bitterness towards the finish. Very nice.
