2012 Ferreira LBV

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Drunk at the Ferreira Lodge. Bottled 2016. Deep youthful purple with a narrow rim and an opaque centre. Delicious and fruity on the nose, soft and with sweet berries. The sweet and fragrant fruit carries through the the palate where it is wrapped around huge tannins which are refined yet brutal — like a bouncer in a dinner jacket. The aftertaste is tannic and drying before finally allowing the blackcurrant skins and pips to deliver on the finish. A big, chewy port full of ripe fruit and which will easily cellar for 20 years, if not 30. 90-92/100. 22-Jun-17. Pop 'n' pour.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
