Attractive mid-red colour, just picking up tones of brick; 50% opaque. Sous bois and brambles on the nose, sweet and fruity yet also a bit earthy. Earthy and slightly woody entry, the fruit is restrained at first with active tannins and sharp acidity. The fruit appears late but is overwhelmed by the acidity, desperately struggling to the surface. The immediate aftertaste is a bit hollow but rounds out to a very fine licorice root and dried bramble finish of tremendous length. Despite being the vintage on offer in Waitrose, this medium-weight port is still closed and unbalanced and will be better in 5-10 years. 88/100. 09-Sep-17. Decanted 2 hours.
