1935 Croft

Post by jdaw1 » 22:42 Thu 28 Dec 2017

Some of the usual suspects gathered at the White Horse in Newport, Essex for the traditional Port Forum Christmas gathering to which were brought the traditional ‘Unknown shippers and their peculiar friends’. Delights of the evening included the very fine fillet steaks, the sparkling company of Jo (pub manager), Mel (on duty for the evening) and Jane the chef.

Deep brick red, 90% opaque. Very smelly, consistent with having been affected by weevils — which had clearly been munching on the cork. Unpleasant and off-putting smell. Empty and hollow entry; the unpleasant taint is less on the palate, but the palate shows virtually nothing. 21-Dec-17. Decanted 1 hour.
Top Ports in 2018 (so far): Niepoort VV (1960's Bottling), Quinta do Noval Nacional 1994 and San Leonardo Very Old White (Bottled 2018)
2017 Ports of the year: Fonseca 1927 and Quinta do Noval 1927

Nose of roasted nuts, oxidised on the palate.
