Black cherry red in colour with a wide rim. Just out of the bottle this smells rich and sweet, full of black cherries yet also with a lovely fragrant rock rose. Sweet, but very pleasant. Hollow entry with the fruit flavours reluctant to arrive. The palate hints at sweet black cherries and the rock rose freagrance but it takes a lot of air and work to get past the simplicity and tannins and into the real port - hopefully more time in the decanter will allow this port to develop and show more . Rich and sweet, this has enough acidity on the palate for balance but perhaps not for long life. The aftertaste and finish are very good, full of ripe black cherry and with a length and persistence that is very surprising. This is a delicious port that will deliver a good 20, perhaps 30, years of very enjoyable drinking. 90/100. 01-Jan-18. Pop 'n' pour.
