NV Maynard Tawny 10YO (bottled 2017)

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Bottled 2017. Deep chestnut brown colour, 60% opaque. A wonderful nose of toffee, caramel and dates; very inviting. On the palate this has plenty of flavour, dominated by dates and with plenty of fresh acidity giving balance. Later on the palate there is a smokiness that add to the complexity of the wine. Some heat from the acidity on the aftertaste, with the alcohol adding a touch of fire, but this settles down to a long and very fine toasted sugar and caramelised orange finish of very good length. A very, very good 10 year old tawny. 88/100. 13-Jan-18. Pop 'n' pour from a 20cl bottle.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
