1948 Taylor vintage port

Shared by the ever-generous Sean C. Decanted for 5 hours before being drunk. Crystal clear appearance, deep toffee colour. Slight alcoholic mintiness on the nose over fresh figs and cedar wood shavings. So elegant in the mouth, thick and sweet just caressing the tongue and cheeks with flavours of stewed raisins and dried fruits. The aftertaste is initially good and full but quickly fades to a lower level, where it continues for a long time. A very, very impressive port that shows no signs of aging. 10/10 or 96/100. Drunk 8/2/08.

Clearly a better example of this port than the bottle we had at the Christmas offline.

This was the first 1948 Taylor I've had and excellent overall!
I'll post a picture tomorrow.

Sean's decant time of 5 hours proved much smarter than mine on Sunday!

A very fine showing for the Taylor and a big thank you to Sean for popping this beauty!

Perhaps I was just having an off day at the Christmas offline, but I did think that this bottle was better than the one in December...

...but perhaps I just didn't allow the December port to sit in my glass for long enough.

My first Taylor 1948: thank you Sean. Quite but not extremal translucency, with lots of red in the hue—not very browned. Some heat, medium-to-light-weight, with a very well-balanced huge mouthfeel. Great length. “Maple on the nose†, said ADV. Uncle Tom score of 10-9. Happily for me I own three of these in the UK.
