In a bottle of Fonseca 1963 was a question rather than a certain answer:

Recognising that this scientific question needed scientific experiment, a round dozen of us gathered to test some 1963s.

A delicious bottle in excellent condition. Full and well balanced with plenty of backbone, quite sweet with red cherries; not quite typical Taylor, but a delicious bottle in excellent condition. Clearly WOTN for me, and for the group was WOTN jointly with the Croft.

35% opacity, red, brown rim. Cherries and candy in the nostrils. Soft entry, dryness quite quickly, fruit prominent mid palate, long finish, gentle heat late on. Others thought this on a par with the Croft or better. I didn't get that same impression. Maybe my glass was a bit duff. That, or I was unfairly judging this bottle against memories of much better T63 in the past.

T63, bottled by Corney and Barrow. Glorious red, 50% opaque. Palate of red cherry, and soft texture. Not the giant it once was, but lovely balance and very long.
