1994 Fonseca

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

A half bottle purchased from the Tappit Hen @£70.

Dark red, hardly mature. Lots of fruit flowing from the bottle while it was being decanted. Hugely fruity on the nose and the palate but still with firm tannins. Just so incredibly young and unevolved. Great port — for 20 years time! 95/100. Drunk 29-Oct-18.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.

Very nice indeed. Surprisingly young and un-evolved from a half bottle. A massive fruit bomb with no adolescent harshness. Lovely port.

AHB commented that JDAW would have loved this. He wasn't wrong, but neither or us could bring ourselves to save some to test that theory.
