2016 Quinta do Noval Nacional

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Shown at the joint 2016 UK Preview Tasting organised by SFE, TFP and Quinta do Noval.

170 cases made. Red coloured rather than purple. Green vegetal tones to the nose over a round and soft Sharon fruit. Soft and deceptive on entry with sweet round fruit and perfect, ripe tannins. The layers of flavour wrap around each other beautifully, the tannins are ripe with some greenness that gives a good and interesting structure and lots of grip. The liquorice finish is surprisingly sweet. This is a deceptive port, at first appearing to be light and sweet fruit but then dominated by big, powerful tannins. 92-94/100. Tasted 17-May-18
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
