NV Fortnum and Mason Crusted 1998

Post by winesecretary »

Another recent auction purchase as part of a mixed lot. According to the label the wine was from 'Silva & Cosens' which is one of the Symington companies. Popped, decanted for an hour, and first poured, as a night cap. Still 60% opaque, this was a rich, thick, figgy, wine of the 'blackstrap molasses' variety. My experience of crusted port is limited to one (positive) encounter with Taylor Crusted bottled 1973, so I have limited data points, but this S&C was both a genuinely admirable wine and astonishingly easy to drink; the latter two thirds (identical in character and taste) were polished off after dinner the following evening with an old friend. Tasted 20/08/19 (and 21/08/19). Perfect now.
