2001 Fonseca Guimaraens Panascal

Post by winesecretary »

A half bottle purchased from FWW. 80% opaque, red rim paling only slightly at the edge. Quite spirity on the nose but with a promising aroma of victoria plum crumble. A hit of mixed spice on the front palate, lots of forest fruit and more ripe plums on the mid palate, with a lick of chocolate. Some heat on the finish but that's by no means unatttractive, and it fades to a lovely tart chuckleberry finish (if you've never had chuckleberry jam, ask a friend from the North of England). Decanted 30 mins, which is certainly not enough. Not a deeply sophisticated port but great fun to drink. Good now, possibly better in five years. Tasted 31/10/19.
