1985 Smith Woodhouse

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

Wine Society Exhibition Vintage Port. A wonderful mature brick red codlour, 60% opaque. Surprisingly little on the nose, a bit of woodsmoke and sour cherry. Nice structure on the palate with plenty of acidity and quite a lot of grip. The fruit is modest and restrained, soft and mature - elegant rather than powerful. The aftertaste is gentle with a sweet cherry finish. This is a nice Port for current drinking. 88/100. Drunk 29-Feb-20. Decanting time N/K.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
