2003 Messias Colheita (bottled 2013)

Post by winesecretary »

Half bottle.

Bottled 2013

+30 mins

Pink - almost Turkish delight colour- with orange rim. Gloopy.

Almonds, marmalade, heat on nose

Palate quite fiery, dried, but very sweet, taste of cherries that have been marinated in plum brandy (not kirsch).

My co-taster commented "high quality fruit-infused boiled sweets, the fruits boiled down with sugar such that the fruit is enmeshed in the sugar; but, also, the sugar is enmeshed in the fruit"

Quite short finish, walnuts and fig roll (both pastry and slightly confected fig paste distinctly present).

Odd but enjoyable

+ 24 hours

Now browner rather than pink

Nose quite dumb - kept in 'fridge which will subdue flavours, but it was still the case when warmed up

Rather richer on the palate - tawnified - hazelnuts, poached plum- English autumn orchard fruits with a hint of Cox's apple. Autumnal but with freshness and lightness.

Finish shorter.

More standard issue colheita now. Doesn't stand out in the way it did yesterday. So, one to pop and pour.

Consumed 19/6/20 & 20/6/20
