1982 Churchill

Post by winesecretary »

On opening

70% opaque red juice. nose hot. Palate hot and acrid. Judgment reserved.

+ 8 hours

70% opaque. Showy legs. Still a little hot on the nose, some violets appearing. Lovely cherry and plum on the palate. Medium length finish.

+32 hours

70% opaque. Nose of plum and prune and fruit cake. No hint of earlier hotness. Rich palate, tasting 'expensive' and 'plush'. Glace cherry and milk chocolate. Prune note on finish.

As jdaw1 said of a good port from a minor vintage on another occasion, 'proper port, properly declared'. Comfortably the best 1982 I have had. And, on the evidence of this bottle, this wine is good for another five or ten years.

Consumed 30/6/20 and 1/7/20 (with assistance).
