1994 Quarles Harris

Post by winesecretary »

+ 30 mins: 90% opaque dark red. Really lovely nose of blackberry and apple crumble. Cool fruit palate: hedgerow fruits and a lick of hawthorn flower and then black cherry cobbler. Chocolate tart on the relatively short finish. Entirely satisfying port, drinking extremely well now.

+ 24 hrs: The chocolate has moved up into the late palate, and has been joined by juicy prunes.

+ 48 hrs: Nose more restrained than when first opened. Still a cool fruit palate, now cycling quickly through the currant colours, black, red, rose, white, before a lesser hint of prune and chocolate than yesterday. Fairly long finish with interesting diversions en route (What's that? Oh, loganberry. Anyway, onwards..).

Some of the non-major 1994s are drinking really well right now. A delicious QdlR a couple of weeks back and now this.

Consumed 11/12/20-13/12/20. An outside chance that it will make it to night four but my father is looking at it covetously.
