1960 Croft

Post by Alex Bridgeman »

An unknown bottle in very dark glass, fortunately the cork was clearly branded as Croft 1960. Bottled in the UK by an unknown wine merchant. Opened at 08.30, decanted at 18.00 and tasting note written at 20.30.

A very rich Burgundy red, distinctly mature; 60% opaque. Cinnamon drops on the nose, sweet and spicy. On the palate this is like a drink made from caramel and red liquorice. Lovely balance in the mouth, big and spicy with sweet cinnamon drops. The acidity creates a big burn on the aftertaste but then develops a sweet and fragrant finish. Wonderful length. This is a delicious Port, drinking very nicely although a little fiery. 89/100. Drunk 15-Dec-20. Decanted 2½ hours.
Top Ports in 2023: Taylor 1896 Colheita, b. 2021. A perfect Port.

2024: Niepoort 1900 Colheita, b.1971. A near perfect Port.
