1977 Berry Brothers (Quarles Harris)
18 hour double-decant, some good solid sediment but 98% clean. Kept in 'fridge and allowed to warm before tasting.
Cherries in kirsch on nose, with tobacco. Pronounced notes of tobacco and star anise on palate. Then cherries in kirsch again. Marmalade and rum on finish. While all of the above implies (rightly) considerable complexity, the extreme nature of the journey on which each glass takes you makes it come across as a bit disjointed. On this showing, if one was cautious, not one to keep beyond its fiftieth birthday.

Much more harmonious than yesterday, with less tobacco and more cherry and that cherry less spirity; very good port indeed, but slightly less interesting overall.
