2003 Cruz LBV

Post by rich_n »

Acquired after Tom's LBV round up highlighted the bottle-aged Cruz back in November. Opened with friends (my single-person bubble) who enjoy but don't know much about port, alongside a Dow 10 YO tawny.

PnP - Decanted early afternoon and returned to the original bottle. Quite a lot of sediment, and a lovely aroma that tempted me in for a taste to see how it was faring. Peppery heat on the nose with a touch of red cherry fruit. Beautifully lush fruit on entry to the palate alongside menthol notes. Medium peppery mid palate with maybe a touch of milk chocolate, a little tannic grip in the finish which is enjoyable but not long.

6 hours later - very similar but softer. Very good for an LBV, and great value for money at around £15.
