NV Waitrose Crusted 2015

Post by JacobH »

2015 Symington “Waitrose № 1” Crusted

Deep purple, fading only a very little. Nose has deep, concentrated grapes with some blackcurrants. The mouth gives an immediate hit of fruit which is very concentrated and hard to unpick. Blackberries, perhaps? There are some floral notes and the grapes are very present, too. There is then a strong hit of tannins which are bold, like an old-fashioned VP. Not much sugar or acid. It reminds me of some of the younger Dow’s from the past. Very good Port.

As always with both Crusted and especially with BoB Crusted, I really want to know what went into this!

Rated*: P+

* A Note on Ratings

My rating system attempts to answer the question “is this a good Port?” one of three ways: N—No; P—Possibly; or C—Certainly. Ports generally are weighted slightly by their category. Therefore, a Ruby Port might receive a C rating for Certainly good which it might not were it to be a Vintage Port. I sometimes modify my rating with a plus or minus indicating that the Port is better or worse than might be expected for this category.
