1975 Delaforce

Popped and poured. Excellent level. Cork broke at the base on extraction with Durand.

99% clear coming out of the bottle though, a very pretty looking wine but hardly any opacity, dark - mid red rose 2/3rds, 1/3rd orange rim.

Rather lovely nose of dusty wild strawberries covered in the white summer stone dust stirred up by a horse and cart passing on an unmade road in Sark. Behind that some penetrating cinnamon when nosed deep. Some orange developing later and the cinnamon fading.

In the mouth more spearmint and, especially, clove before the cough syrup (which attractively seems to be infused with a simple marmalade (not from Seville oranges); and also evokes rice pudding scented with orange flower water) takes over in the mid palate. The sweet finish fades through a range of boiled confectionery - aniseed twist to cough candy. Some tobacco developing mid and late palate, later.

As you can probably tell I am charmed by this slightly elderly port, despite its lack of oomph.
