From the tasting on 18 Mar 08 - served blind

Very dark. The nose has faded considerably over 24 hrs. Soft and delicious. Beautiful structure with layers and layers of fruit. Tannin all the way through to the finish but nothing aggressive. Long, long finish. Excellent.

AHB guessed Fonseca Guimareans 1986. Close, but no cigar

My tasting note taken at the time:

Mid red-brown in colour, just transparent but very dark. Some development in the colour but not mature yet. Tobacco and spices on the nose with a caramel like you find in sweet roasted root vegetables. Smooth and elegant into the mouth, bringing sweet redcurrant flavours that grow considerably but stay in perfect and elegant balance. A faint hint of tannins show through in the mid-palate, but nothing more than to assist the acidity with the structure. A wonderful aftertaste with red licorice, a touch of rosemary right at the end of the very long elegance. Drinking very well indeed and will hold for a good few years yet. 6-6 or 91/100. Drunk after 8 hours of decanting on 18 March 2008.
