1994 Taylor bought, late in the evening on Saturday 29th March 2008, for $130 from Dovetail, the restaurant in which we held the 1977 horizontal. (It was spotted on the desert menu at $16 a glass, so we enquired about a bottle.)

The bottle:

The seemingly black colour is an accurate representation: it was that dark.

1994 Taylor: opened late in the evening, when time and sobriety were both lacking. Opaque black. Very dark indeed. Intense prunes to nose, and in the mouth. A brutal monster, that might be ready in my lifetime, but to live that long I’d have to drink less port.

Now that is a port which I would like to try one day. Good to hear your impressions were positive.

The taylors 94 was truly a steal and a stern lesson in potent youthful port.

I thought wines like the mollydooker and turley were extracted. The taylor makes both of them seem like water.

But surprisingly, this had depth and balance despite the whammy full of fruit. Great structure, but again, I think this is the first time I've had a wine where the fruit overpowers the tannins.

A wine for my grandchild's 21st birthday (and I don't even have kids yet!)

Yes, that is one brutal beast and has a TON of life left to go. I had it just a few weeks ago and it honestly reminded me of a Vp that was a few years old...not 14 years ago!
