An odd bottle from a job lot - appearance is compatible with good cellaring.

Decanted 5.30pm - very pale with fine gritty sediment.

First sip - bland, inoffensive.

3 hours on - pale golden red colour in the glass; light, slightly smokey bouquet.

Light on the palate, but little fire. Unexceptional, but quite agreeable..

This sounds very similar to my recollection of the Dalva 70.

Yes, has more in common with the '70 than other 77's

22 hours on..

Has filled out quite nicely, but a little bit of fire has emerged.

I would judge this wine to be at the peak of it's maturation cycle, if anything, a little past it's peak. While this is very much a second division wine, I would not be averse to buying more - if the price was right.

To score - for immediate gratifciation this ranks a little below the mean, so a 4

Where's it going? I suspect that this will be very tired and possibly tertiary in another ten years, so a 2

Score 4-2
